Refreshing the Community

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at Mallard Point Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Prioritizing Seasonal Needs

For the spring refresh, my team evaluates areas that need attention in order of priority. Safety concerns and urgent items come first. From there, we focus on highly visible areas.

We schedule lower-priority items that do not require immediate attention for a later date.

A recent seasonal project involved hand-pulling weeds in the landscape beds near the front and back doors. We completed this work during good weather and before the landscaping contractor arrived.

Each team member has a specific task. This helps us track progress and confirm when each item is complete.

Planning Ahead

Some common spring startup issues include mulch on sidewalks and patios. We also find broken sprinkler heads caused by snow removal. Once snow season ends, we make sure brooms and leaf blowers are ready.

We also begin communicating with the landscaper about any sprinkler head repairs.

Next season, I plan to grade down the flower beds, remove years of built-up mulch, and add fresh mulch or rock.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure Mallard Point Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
